Phew!! What a few months it’s been. MDU is well under way and we have been working away in the background with n all things relocation and building our brand. We have some exciting things ahead and sometimes it feels like we are getting nowhere and then all of a sudden the ball gets rolling again!! In times where we get mind blanks and feel like we’re hitting a wall, we try and bring ourselves back down to earth and look at what is happening around us to gain some inspiration and remind us of our “Why!”

When we started MDU, our original idea was to simply just create a podcast where mamas, no matter who you are or where you come from, could listen in and relate to our every day lives. We wasn’t even sure people would want to listen but there seamed to be a gap in the market for this and we thought “let’s give it a try.” Off the back of that we had several mamas reach out to us talking about their own experience and in particular, how lonely they sometimes feel being on the other side of the world with no family or support. That’s when we decided to create our meet ups for families on the coast. The amount of gratitude we have organising these meet ups and meeting these amazing women who are on this journey that is exactly the same as us is what gives us our constant drive. We want to give people a space where feeling lonely is normalised and where you don’t have to feel lonely alone. It has been released that the main cause of depression in Australia for 2024 was LONELINESS. That is mind blowing! As of June 2024, approximately 8.6 million people living in Australia were born overseas accounting for 31.5% of the total population of 27.2 million. This marks the highest proportion of overseas-born residents in Australia's history. By 2040, the Gold Coast will be home to over 1 million people, making it Australia’s fastest growing city. 

When expats think of the Australian dream, it doesn’t occur to us how lonely life can be. People can easily get carried away with the beautiful beaches and the idea and BBQ’s all year round. But loneliness is real and can creep in fast. Our goal and aim is to create ready made communities of like minded women in all major cities throughout Australia! Imagine knowing you are relocating to Perth and there is a group of women waiting to welcome you with open arms. Women who understand your down days better than anyone else. Women who have children that are also feeling the pressures of leaving their normal behind. And it doesn’t stop there. We might be named MAMAS DOWN UNDER, but everyone is welcome and we understand that it’s important for our dads and kids to have this support too. With MDU there’s no judgements, no discrimination. We are promoting love and acceptance in an ever growing community that is setting the bar high to make sure your lonely days are numbered
